Why I Built Wellday

It started when I was a kid. I'd get a feeling first. My brain felt dry, my mind went spacey, and I knew exactly what was coming. That feeling meant I had fifteen, maybe twenty minutes to find my bed before the pain arrived. Sleep was the only thing that made it stop, when I could get there. Plenty of times I couldn't. My mom would find me curled up on the bathroom linoleum after puking my brains out, waiting for it to pass.

Nobody called it migraine. It was just a thing that happened to me.

The worst part wasn't even the pain. It was what the pain did to everything around it. I knew my migraines were connected to sleep. Less sleep meant more risk. So every night, right as I closed my eyes, the fear of getting one would show up and make it harder to fall asleep. A vicious cycle. It cost me decades of good nights.

I lived with it. That was the whole treatment plan: live with it.

Then in my twenties I got a new primary care doctor, and she did something nobody had done before. She explained it. The feeling had a name: aura. The thing that kept happening to me had a name: migraine. It had triggers and patterns, and there were real medications built specifically for it. This was before you could look any of that up on the internet. She prescribed sumatriptan, the first triptan on the market, and for me it changed everything. A little pill that could usually stop a migraine in its tracks if I took it the moment the aura showed up.

Here's the part that stayed with me about that appointment. It was luck.

I didn't research my way to it. I didn't fight through referrals. I happened to sit down in front of a doctor who understood migraine and took ten minutes to teach me about my own head. That was the entire difference between decades of curling up on floors and having an answer in my pocket.

Most people never get that appointment.

There are 564 board-certified headache specialists in America for 39 million people with migraine. That math has never worked, and it shows. Most people managing migraines are doing it the way I did as a kid: store-bought pills, dark rooms, willpower, and a life quietly rearranged around bad days. Most of them have never been told that migraine-specific prescription medications exist. Not because they didn't ask. Because nobody was there to tell them.

I also know I'm lucky twice over. My migraine profile isn't extreme. It's real, and it's on the spectrum of migraine suffering, but I can't imagine living with worse. A lot of people live with worse.

Wellday is for people like me, and for people living with worse.

So here's what we built. A short online visit. You tell us about your migraines, and a licensed clinician trained in migraine care reviews everything within 24 to 48 hours. No appointments to hunt for. No video calls. No waiting rooms. If a prescription treatment is right for you, it ships to your door. The education my doctor gave me by luck, delivered on purpose.

We're honest about the business side too, because that's part of care. You see every charge before it happens, and medication is only ever charged after a clinician actually prescribes it. And we're honest about fit. Some migraine situations need in-person neurology, and if that's yours, we'll tell you straight and help point you to the right place.

Today Wellday treats the acute side: stopping attacks when they happen. The bigger fight is coming. Preventive care for people whose migraines have taken over the calendar, including the insurance battles that keep those treatments out of reach, is what we're building next. If that's the care you're waiting on, there's a spot on our site to get notified the day it opens.

I spent decades thinking the floor was just where migraines put you. It took one lucky appointment to learn it didn't have to be. Nobody should have to get lucky.

That's the whole idea behind Wellday. Feel Better. Live Better.
